This postgraduate program can be carried out at the following departments:
- Department of Photonics
- Department of Laser Measurement and Navigation Systems
Department of Photonics was established in 1931 and it is one of the oldest and the most renowned departments of the University. The research activity of the Department is focused on pioneering research in the fields of Photonics and Electronics. In the last few decades research and academic activity were focused mainly on photovoltaics, solar energy technology, and laser technology.
Many outstanding Russian scientists and engineers have graduated from the Department of Photonics for the last decades. The most renowned of the Department's alumnus is the laureate of the Nobel Prize in Physics (2000) Prof. Zhores Alferov.
Department of Laser Measurement and Navigation Systems was established in 1938 and it was one of the first
departments in the Soviet Union to start training in the field of Navigation systems. The main direction of training is high-precision measuring and navigation systems based on inertial sensing elements. A feature of the training is its versatility.
Graduates are familiar with the physics of the inertial sensitive elements of various types - laser, microelectronic, mechanics. Department of Laser Measurement and Navigation Systems provides students with the fundamental training in the field of automation and control for the development and operation of navigation systems..
